Cross Country
Head Coach: Matt Stevens
Matt Stevens is excited to be teaming up with Liz and Thailyr to continue developing a strong XC program at Mountainside. Matt ran XC and track through middle and high school in Hawai'i where he won three comsecutive individual state championships, as well as six state track titles. He went on to run a combined 4 years of XC and track at Harvard University and Hawaii Pacific University. His PR's include a 4:17 1600m, 1:11 and 2:38 for half and full marathons, as well as 34 hours at the HURT 100 miler. His coaching experience includes head coaching in XC and track at Bonjoge Boys Seconday School in western Kenya, as well as 4 years of high school coaching in Hawai'i and one year as a grad assistant for HPU XC. While knowledable about the technical aspects of training and racing, Matt's real passion is developing camaraderie and character through running that will help students for all of life's various challenges.
With 10 years of teaching experience, Matt is also starting his first year on the Mountainside staff teaching Global Politics and American history. His wife, Lesley, teaches physics and biology at Mountainside and they have a 9 year old son and a 7 year old daughter.

Head Coach: John Mannion
John Mannion has been a teacher and varsity football coach for the past 26 years. After graduating from the University of California Santa Barbara and earning a teaching credential from the University of California Irvine, John began his career in 1991 at Milpitas High School near San Jose, CA. After four years at Milpitas, he was at Foothill High School in Pleasanton, CA for 15 years, becoming head coach in 2007. At Foothill he was part of a program that won eight league championships and two section championships. The past seven years have been spent at Silverton High School where his teams have compiled a record of 57-20, winning league championships in 2012 and 2014 as well as reaching the State Semi-Finals in 2012 and 2013, and the State Finals in 2014. He was named Oregon 5A Coach of the Year in 2012 and served as head coach of the South Team in the 2014 Les Schwab High School All-Star Game.John and his wife Inga, a teacher and high school counselor for the past 26 years, have four children; Sean, 25, and daughter-in-Megan (a Southridge graduate) live in Thousand Oaks, CA; Katie, 22, works as a civil engineer in Walnut Creek, CA; Megan, 18, will be starting Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in the fall; and Brian, 13, will be an eighth grader in the fall.

Girls Soccer
Travis is the current Lake Oswego Soccer Club Director of Youth Development. Travis has coached at LOSC for over 15 years. During his career at LOSC, he has won multiple State Championships and has helped numerous players move on to play at the collegiate level. Travis currently coaches within the LOSC Juniors Program and the Crossfire United ECNL Program, demonstrating his commitment to all levels of the game. Travis previously coached women’s soccer at Jesuit High School, St Mary’s (CA), Glencoe HS, and Crescent Valley HS. Travis holds a USSF B Coaching License, NSCAA Advanced National License and he is a former State ODP Coach. He has his Master’s in Teaching from Pacific University, is married to Leti Schoonover and has a daughter Keaton (9) and son Cardin (7).
