Grades: 11, 12
Prerequisite: NONE. District Options On-line Application Process
Fees: $35 for program t-shirt, First Aid and Healthcare Professional CPR certifications and lab supplies. (paid for by CTE student fees replacement grant)

This full year introductory course is for the student who has an interest in exploring or pursuing a career in health services. Students will learn core knowledge and skills common to major health careers. Areas of emphasis are medical terminology, medical ethics, safety in health care, career exploration, self-assessment portfolios, and some basic health care skills. Students will be involved in community health projects such as elementary school health screenings, blood drives and other related community experience. These students have the opportunity to be involved with HOSA: Future Health Professionals, a pre-professional organization of potential health care workers. The Red Cross course, Responding to Emergencies is part of the curriculum in which students will explore and demonstrate basic first aid, first aid in remote settings, healthcare professional CPR for adult, child and infant, and educational training in Automated External Defibrillation (AED).
H440/H441: Advanced Health Careers
One year/2.0 Elective credits, held on BHS campus only OPEN to all BSD comprehensive high school students.

Prerequisite: Health Careers I and Human Anatomy and Physiology
Fees: Program/Uniform costs are approximately $100 per year. (paid for by CTE student fees replacement grant)

This course is designed for senior students who have successfully completed Health Careers and Human Anatomy. First semester curriculum includes mastery of basic patient care skills, introductory pathophysiology of common diseases, professional skills and medical terminology. The curriculum also includes guest lecturers from diverse healthcare fields who explain their career pathways, share their expertise and provide updates on current practices. Second semester, students will be placed in the community to explore career options with healthcare professionals. Among the clinical sites offered to students are hospital, medical, dental, veterinary medicine, physical and occupational therapy, speech and rehabilitation, fitness, sports medicine, and medical social service. There are also options during 2nd semester to earn certification training in the areas of Medical Assisting, Dental Assisting, EKG Technician, and Pharmacy Technician in lieu of some clinical career exploration. Students are encouraged to continue their membership in Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA). Advanced Health Careers provides students with a realistic view of career options. Clinical experiences allow students to collect valuable information facilitating educated decisions regarding their future in college or the workplace.
H442: Nurse Assisting 1
One year/2.0 Elective credits, held on BHS campus only
Grades: 12
Prerequisite: Health Careers I
Fees: Most fees are now covered by the CTE student fees replacement grant. Covered fees include program/uniform costs ($75), background fees ($105), and the Oregon State Board of Nursing exam fee ($106). The only fee students are responsible for is the Clackamas Community College Dual Credit fee. This cost is $10.00/credit= $70.00. This fee is waived for free and reduced lunch.

This full year course is designed to prepare students to perform (word removed) patient care tasks for clients in the following settings: long-term and skilled nursing care facilities, home care, and hospitals. The Oregon State Board of Nursing mandates Nursing Assistant 1 programs include 80 hours of classroom/lab instruction and 75 hours of clinical experience. (sentences were removed here). Students will take the Oregon State Board of Nursing state licensing examination at the end of this course.
