College and Career Center

In Mountainside’s College and Career Center, we believe that Opportunities Are Everywhere. There are opportunities to CONNECT with others in our school, our community and beyond. Opportunities to be curious about the world around us and EXPLORE our strengths. Opportunities to learn new skills and PURSUE our goals.

We want to help students find the opportunities that are right for them.

To help them find their opportunities, we provide a variety of events, resources and tools to support students. Some of these things are:

Career Planning

Planning for future careers involves building practical skills for the working world and learning about the preparation needed for various career pathways. See the menus below for information about Career Exploration, CRLEs, and Job Seeking Information.

CRLEs

CRLEs

Students are required to complete four Career Related Learning Experiences (CRLEs) prior to graduation. CRLEs can be:

completing a job application
completing a practice job application at Mountainside
completing a job interview
completing a mock interview at Mountainside
attending a Career Fair
listening to a guest speaker
completing an internship
completing a job shadow
completing an informational interview
and so much more!

Students will have opportunities to complete some of these CRLEs during Advisory class; students may also choose to complete CRLEs on their own. Once students complete a CRLE, they should fill out the CRLE form (available on Canvas or in the Counseling Office) and submit it to Mrs. O'Quinn in the Counseling Office so that it can be counted towards the CRLE graduation requirement.

Financial Aid

Scholarships

Scholarships are a type of financial aid that can be awarded by colleges, public institutions or private foundations and corporations. This is "free money" that does not have to be repaid by the student or family and is designed to make continuing education affordable.

To find scholarships granted by specific colleges, you will need to look on the website of the individual college. The information can usually be found on the "financial aid" page of the college's website.

As of 6/12/2021, the district anticipates September visits will be conducted virtually. These virtual visits will be available for all students in the district. A centralized calendar for the Beaverton School District high schools, through Hobsons, will be posted in July for you to use to schedule and communicate. In September, we will receive a determination when in-person visits will be allowed. In September, a Hobson Rep Visit calendar will be posted for you to schedule an in-person visit to come and see us.
